BAGUIO CITY: Mayor Benjamin Magalong appealed to tourists and visitors of the Summer Capital to dispose of their trash in a proper manner to maintain the city's clean surroundings.
The mayor said there are trash bins all around the city and if the tourists could not find any, they need to hold on to their trash and dispose of them in appropriate places.
He said that many individuals have already been caught improperly disposing of their thrash by authorities and that around 90 percent of them were tourists.
The city's anti-littering ordinance makes it unlawful for any person to throw any kind of garbage in public spaces and provides the appropriate fines or penalties for its violation.
In 1995, Baguio garnered the "Hall of Fame" award in the nationwide Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Highly Urbanized City after winning for three consecutive years.
Part of the city government's core agenda is to revitalize and protect the environment. The city government also conducts citywide cleanup drives monthly.
Baguio is currently celebrating its monthlong Flower Festival, popularly known as the "Panagbenga."
