PH still an example of unity – Duterte

By Manila Times - 10 months ago

VICE President Sara Duterte on Saturday said the Philippines remains a shining example of unity amid differences.

"Like colors on an artist's palette, we blend together, harmonizing our faith, goodness and humility to build a sanctuary of peace," Duterte said in her message for the country's observance of World Interfaith Harmony Week from February 1 to 7.

The vice president added that she was praying for a world where love would reign supreme and where prejudice would become a distant memory.

She said that Christians, Muslims and other "spiritual siblings" were now walking together and acknowledging their interconnectedness toward unity and serenity.

Duterte also called on Filipinos to embark on a universal path where trust, respect and love intertwine.

"With open hearts, we can craft a world that is kinder, more compassionate and overflowing with acceptance, a world our children's children will embrace," she said.

The observance of World Interfaith Harmony Week started in Jordan and was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution on Oct. 20, 2010.

Its core principle is the fundamental religious command to love God and one's neighbor.
