Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu believes the US relies on Taiwan's semiconductor production and would protect its interests in the region. Wu's comments follow increased Chinese military activity near Taiwan, with a 300% rise in airspace incursions since May, according to US Commander of Pacific Air Forces General Kevin Schneider.
