Sugar rush leads world food prices to jump in September, UN says

The U.N. world food price index surged in September, marking the biggest increase in 18 months due to a 10.4% rise in sugar prices amid crop concerns in Brazil and India's ethanol production changes. Higher vegetable oil and cereal prices also contributed, with the FAO slightly adjusting global cereal production forecasts.
