Sri Lanka's president dissolves parliament to make way for Nov 14 polls

Sri Lanka's newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has dissolved parliament to facilitate a snap general election, set for November 14, with the new parliament convening on November 21. Dissanayake, a Marxist-leaning leader, won the presidency in a recent election, marking the country's first since its severe financial crisis in 2022 that forced the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
