US retail sales ticked up last month in sign of ongoing consumer resilience

Americans spent slightly more at retailers in August, with retail sales increasing by 0.1% from July. Online retailers, sporting goods stores, and home and garden stores saw higher sales. Despite inflation and higher interest rates, consumers continue to spend. Average paychecks have risen, helping maintain spending levels even as prices increase.
