UN Security Council fails to pass US resolution calling for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

By Economic Times - 8 months ago
The United Nations Security Council failed to pass a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza due to vetoes from Russia and China. The resolution, also abstained from by Guyana, aimed to secure a six-week ceasefire for humanitarian aid and civilian protection. The U.S., which proposed the resolution, criticized the veto, calling it a "historic mistake." Talks in Qatar are ongoing, focusing on a truce and the release of hostages. A new resolution for an immediate ceasefire for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan is being considered.
