Icelandic police declared a state of emergency as a new volcanic fissure erupted on the Reykjanes peninsula, the fourth since December. The eruption, between Stora Skogfell and Hagafell, led to lava flow towards Grindavik. The Icelandic Met Office confirmed the eruption, which occurred close to a previous one on February 8. Authorities evacuated the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa and Grindavik village. The eruptions follow increased seismic activity, indicating a new era of volcanic activity in the region.
