New cancer cases to soar 77% by 2050: WHO

By Economic Times - 10 months ago
The World Health Organization's cancer agency, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, warned that the number of new cancer cases will rise to over 35 million in 2050, a 77 percent increase from the 2022 figure. The agency identified tobacco, alcohol, obesity, and air pollution as key factors contributing to this rise. The most-developed countries are expected to see the largest increase in case numbers, while countries with lower Human Development Index scores will experience the greatest proportional increase. Cancer mortality rates are also projected to double in 2050.
