Champagne: French drinking less wine after boom years

Champagne producers in France experienced an 8.2% drop in foreign shipments last year, according to the Comite Champagne, reflecting challenges in the luxury market. Domestic shipments also fell to the lowest level in almost four decades, excluding 2020. While the French are the largest consumers of their own sparkling wine, economic factors, including inflation, have affected household budgets.
