Indian sugar output slumps 44 pc in early 2024-25 season as mills delay crushing

By Economic Times - 9 hours ago
India's sugar production plummeted by 44% in the initial six weeks of the 2024-25 season, reaching a mere 7.10 lakh tonnes. This decline is attributed to a significant decrease in operational sugar mills, with only 144 mills active compared to 264 the previous year. Maharashtra, a leading sugar-producing state, is yet to commence crushing operations, further impacting production.
