An internal committee of the Income Tax Department will review the Income Tax Act of 1961 to streamline and update it by removing outdated clauses and adopting global best practices, according to CBDT chief Ravi Agrawal. The committee, formed of IT officials nationwide, aims to simplify the law for better taxpayer compliance. This review, part of a central government initiative, is expected to be completed within six months. Agrawal also emphasized improving communication with taxpayers to reduce misunderstandings and disputes.
