Govt mulls allowing excess stock of B-heavy molasses for ethanol making

The government is contemplating allowing sugar mills to produce ethanol using their surplus B-heavy molasses amid stable sugar prices and ample supply. With more than 8 lakh tonnes of excess B-heavy molasses in storage, the industry seeks to use it for ethanol production following a ban reversal. Discussions on the proposal are ongoing.
