Dubai's Al Khaleej Sugar is aiming to increase production at its sugar refinery this year, targeting up to 1.5 million tons. The refinery operated at 40% of capacity last year, producing around 600,000 metric tons. The increase is attributed to competition from India being curtailed due to bad weather in the country. Al Ghurair mentioned that the white sugar market needs to be tighter to operate at full capacity
