Demand for work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) saw a slight decrease in February compared to the previous year, marking the fourth consecutive month of moderation. Approximately 26.21 million individuals sought work last month, slightly lower than the 26.23 million in the same period last year. However, the number of households demanding work increased marginally to 21.21 million from 21.14 million. This trend coincides with the broader economic recovery, as the economy is expected to grow at a higher rate of 7.6% in 2023-24, up from 7% the previous year.
