Review procurement policy for wheat, rice at MSP: Niti Panel

By Economic Times - 8 months ago
A NITI Aayog working group has recommended the government to reconsider its open-ended procurement policy for rice and wheat at minimum support prices to encourage farmers to diversify towards other crops like nutri-cereals, pulses, and edible oil. The group argues that the policy discourages diversification towards high-value and riskier crops, and suggests restricting procurement to meet food security and welfare schemes.
