The government has decided to increase the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane growers by Rs 25 to Rs 340 per quintal for the 2024-25 season, marking the highest increase since 2014. This decision, taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), is aimed at benefiting over 5 crore sugarcane farmers and ensuring their prosperity. The new FRP, which will be effective from October 1, 2024, is 107% higher than the cost of production. This move reaffirms the government's commitment to doubling farmers' income and comes ahead of the general elections.
