The Centre is considering imposing a price cap on imported tur dal to manage domestic prices due to concerns over monopoly suppliers like Myanmar and Mozambique. Consumer affairs secretary Rohit Kumar Singh warned the pulses industry of tough action in a meeting, expressing discontent over the bullish trend in tur prices. Wholesale prices of unprocessed tur had previously fallen but have now risen again. Challenges in imposing a maximum import price include the possibility of reduced imports, which could lead to losses for importers. There are also concerns about hoarding by Myanmar traders.
