The ministry of information and broadcasting reported receiving 269 complaints against TV channels from 2019 to 2023. In the same period, they granted 117 TV channel licenses out of 156 applications. Cable TV subscriptions fell from 103 million in 2020 to 64 million in 2023, partly due to the rise of OTT platforms.
