IndiGo, Air India plan for up to 170 wide-body planes in little over a year

By Economic Times - 7 months ago
Air India and IndiGo have unveiled plans to acquire up to 170 wide-body aircraft, signaling a bullish outlook on expansion and India's aviation sector growth. This move also marks Airbus' entry into India's wide-body aircraft market, traditionally dominated by Boeing. Including narrow-body aircraft orders from Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air, India's aircraft order book exceeds 1,200 planes in just over a year. This surge in orders reflects India's status as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, with efforts to enhance direct international connectivity and reduce reliance on Gulf hubs for transit traffic.
