DoT asks Telcos to deactivate USSD-based call forwarding service from April

By Economic Times - 3 months ago
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has instructed telecom operators to deactivate USSD-based call forwarding services by April 15 to prevent fraud and misuse. This decision comes in response to reports of fraudsters using call forwarding to steal confidential information like OTPs. The DoT has advised subscribers to reactivate call forwarding using alternative methods to prevent unauthorized activation. USSD services are accessed by dialling codes on mobile keypads and are commonly used for checking balances and activating call forwarding, which the DoT says is being exploited for illicit activities.
