DGCA levies fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India for failing to provide adequate wheelchair

By Economic Times - 9 months ago
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined Air India Rs 30 lakhs for failing to provide a wheelchair to an 80-year-old passenger who later collapsed and died while walking from the aircraft to the terminal in Mumbai. The incident occurred on February 12, and the penalty was imposed for violating aircraft rules. DGCA has advised all airlines to ensure an adequate number of wheelchairs for passengers needing assistance. Air India stated that the passenger chose to walk, and the lack of immediate availability of a wheelchair was due to insufficient numbers.
