Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a new housing scheme in the interim budget to help the middle-class buy or build their own houses. The government aims to target 20 million additional houses to meet the increasing demand. The rural housing scheme, PMAY-Gramin, is nearing completion with 86% of the target achieved.
