Satcom to connect remote & underserved areas: Ashwini Vaishnaw

By Economic Times - 10 months ago
India aims to use satellite communication to provide broadband services to underserved regions, reaching remote villages in the Northeast, Himalayas, forests, and islands. The government encourages collaboration with satellite service providers like Eutelsat-OneWeb, Reliance Jio, Starlink, Amazon, Telesat, and Tata Group. The move aligns with India's Space Policy 2023, allowing private LEO and MEO satellite operators to offer broadband-from-space services. The space sector's opening is driving innovation, fostering startups and contributing to India's goal of achieving an $44 billion space economy by 2033.
