The Housing Ministry received 28 proposals for new cities from 23 states. The central government plans to build eight new cities. The 15th Finance Commission allocated Rs 8,000 crore. Each new city will receive Rs 1,000 crore. An expert committee reviewed the proposals. The ministry requested revised proposals from North-Eastern states.
