LAL-LO, Cagayan: The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVet) has reported 24 more pigs died in this town over the weekend due to African swine fever (ASF).
Provincial veterinarian Dr. Myka Ponce said the dead pigs were owned by two hog raisers in Barangay Alaguia.
Ponce said the pigs were immediately buried and her office readily conducted a massive disinfection in the area.
She said a ban has been imposed against the transportation of live pigs including pork meat from the said village to prevent the spread of the disease in nearby areas.
Earlier, the PVet also reported new cases of ASF in the towns of Alcala and Baggao in this province following the death of some hogs.
The PVet has advised hog raisers to report immediately to their respective municipal agriculturist office when their domestic pigs show signs of ASF infection.
These signs are immediate death, not eating, abortion in sows, redness of the body, and when the pig can no longer stand.
