IMUS CITY, Cavite: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the city government of Imus boosted its "Buhay Ingatan, Droga'y Ayawan" (BIDA) campaign by staging a fun run and a colorful Zumba event on Saturday, January 20, at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Barangay Pasong Buaya here.
More than 3,000 participants from the seven cities and 16 towns of Cavite joined the fun run.
DILG Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr., Cavite 7th District provincial board member Francisco Gabriel Remulla and Imus City Mayor Alex Advincula graced the event.
"We know that drugs are the number one problem in the country; that's why this program of the government and DILG is very good. Let's control it in cooperation with all sectors of society," said Indang Mayor Perfecto Fidel, also president of the Cavite Mayor's League.
"We at the Cavite Mayor's League fully support and support the BIDA program. We, here in the province of Cavite, along with 22 other local chief executives, fully support this program."
Later, a town hall meeting was held at the New Imus City Government Center with 300 representatives from sectors and groups nationwide to discuss pressing topics about illegal drugs.
The dialogue between the government and the private sector centered around the roles of the religious sector in the fight against illegal drugs, drug abuse effects in schools and academics, and how illegal drugs affect business and the economy.
