US 'very close' to soft landing, IMF chief economist says

The IMF's chief economist, Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, indicated that the United States is close to achieving a "soft landing" by tackling inflation without triggering a prolonged recession. Ahead of the IMF's World Economic Outlook report, he noted that while global growth is slowing, the US remains a positive exception. Inflation in the US is easing toward the Federal Reserve's target, and the labor market, though cooling, is resilient.
