After creator Nic Pizzolatto’s overall contract with HBO came to an end and the showrunner opted to move to Disney, HBO decided to hand the franchise over to Issa Lopez, retaining ownership of the series. The Disney-owned streamer will soon return with 'True Detective Season 5'.
