BDO’s Tan to get 3rd term as BAP president

Banco de Oro Unibank president and CEO Nestor Villanueva Tan will stay as president of the 36-member Bankers’ Association of the Philippines (BAP), a source very privy to the matter told the Daily Tribune. If reelected, Tan, now on his third decade as president and CEO of the biggest unibank in the Philippines, will equate the three terms entrusted to his predecessor who served from 2013 to 2016. “(I) am sure he will stay,” the source said in an interview at the lounge of the country’s most exclusive members-only building. It will be official if Tan will serve his third term on March 19, 2018, which is the day of the election. “Not official until Monday,” he added. If he’ll stay, it will be the BDO top official’s third term since clinching his first term in 2016. The source said the respect being accorded to the current BAP president is enough for him to keep the presidency. He added that former presidents of the most influential association in the country will select the next BAP president and it will likely be the same president who’s been serving since 2016.“The former BAP presidents select. “(I) don’t think anyone would object to Nestor,” he added.Tan, who has over 35 years experience in global banking, was with Barclays in England when he was tapped to lead BDO in 1997. Since then, the newly tapped president-CEO steered the bank to greater heights until 2008 when it became number one in assets.
